Basic Mechanics Guide: Controlling Your Hero
In Strife, you assume control of a powerful and versatile hero. Good decision-making and strategy will set you apart, but skillful execution of your hero's abilities and attacks are important fundamentals.
- Moving and Basic Attacks
- Right click on the ground to move to the targeted location. You can also right click an enemy to activate your basic attack.
- Using Your Abilities
-
To use an ability, press its associated hotkey (default Q, W, E, R), which can be re-assigned in the Options menu.
Most abilities will require you to left click a target or location to confirm its execution.
You can enable Quick Casting in the Options to automatically target abilities to your mouse cursor.
Dynamic Movement
While moving in Strife is simple, how you move to a location is often more important than where you're moving to. Here are some tips to help you move more effectively:
- Course Correct
- Change your move commands often. Variables change rapidly; adjust to them on the fly.
- One Step at a Time
- Issue shorter movement commands - doing so will give you more micro-control over exactly where your hero will travel so you don't accidentally step too close to danger.
- Find a Rhythm
- Find a rhythm between moving, attacking, and using abilities. It's very important that you move between actions such as using abilities and attacking so you don't lose ground!
The Fog of War
A staple RTS mechanic, the fog of war hides things that you and your allies cannot "see.” Understanding the fog of war is crucial to deciding where to move, how to move there, and how to position yourself for success.
- High Ground
- Units can not see uphill, like up a set of stairs. Be careful of an ambush when moving uphill!
- Brush
- There are patches of brush scattered around the Strife arena. Standing in one will hide you from enemies outside of it. Use brush to surprise your foes.
- Observatories
- There are observatories located in keep parts of the map. Capturing one by walking near it will give your team vital vision for a short period of time.
- Sneaky like a Ninja
- Stay in the fog of war for as long as possible when attempting a surprise attack, even if it means taking a longer, more indirect route.
