MOBA Veteran Guide: Hit the Ground Running

Transferring Skill

Having honed your skills in other MOBAs, you want to come in and hit the ground running. Some of the skills that you've acquired are more important than ever, but others have diminished value in Strife.

More Important than in Other MOBAs

Teamwork
Coordinating with your team is more important than ever, because Strife isn't about getting one team member super farmed — it really is a team effort.
Combat Tactics and Execution
There are going to be a lot more skirmishes and team fights, and how you approach and execute them will be crucial.
Adaptability
Due to the high action of the game and vast build options available to enemy heroes, you will have to adjust on the fly to choose the best strategies and item builds.
Pushing Brawler Waves
Brawler waves spawn more frequently in Strife and push aggressively. Swinging the pushes in your team's favor is crucial for map control.

Less Important than in Other MOBAs

Last Hit Timing
Farming is still key, but you can not deny your team's brawlers and last hitting is generally easier and can be quickly done with abilities.
Upkeep
Because there are no purchased wards or other items to check off a list, less emphasis is placed on fulfilling a routine.
Doing the "Right" Thing
Strife is all about options and doing things your way, so you don't have to follow a specific convention for strategy or a hero build.

Setting Up Your Team

Setting up your lanes is important for starting a game well. Here are some considerations to think about when deciding who goes where.

  • Because Baldir, an early game objective, is in the top half of the map, it is common practice to send 2 players top and 2 players middle to contest for Baldir. This often results in a 2-2-1 lane setup.
  • Jungling is possible, but is very much optional. It can be rewarding to jungle, but it can also harm your team since you may be leaving one of your teammates in a 1v2 situation.
  • Having both Ability and Attack damage on your team is important because it makes it more difficult for opponents to build just one armor type.
